I was requested by the director
of Open Studio to perform a facilities analysis and to assist the organization
in finding a new location for the Studio near their King Street West site. The
Studio had a collection of furniture and equipment, some in excellent shape,
and others much past its prime. After producing a lengthy document of their
facility needs, we looked at several buildings, evaluating each in terms of
size and shape of the floor plate, ease of movement from the exterior to the
proposed new space, future growth potential and of course, lighting and mechanical
upgrades required to meet the Studio's needs.
The layout below is from one building that was considered; the major drawback
was the long and narrow shape. After this detailed study was complete, we
decided a square shape floor space, similar to the one they currently occupied,
would best suit their needs. With this new information in mind, the Studio
found another space not far from their original location, and moved in after
some minor renovations. |
